Forward collision warning system and Lane departure warning system based

Abstract :

            We developed an in-vehicle safety device, which used an Android Smartphone as a platform because of its compactness and mobility. Open CV library was used along with Android SDK to develop the program. The system consists of two functionalities: forward collision warning system (FCWS) and lane departure warning system (LDWS). FCWS warns the driver when he cannot keep a safe distance from the front car using the two-second rule. It detects the cars in the front using a camera, evaluate the distance. Vehicle's velocity obtained from GPS is used with the distance to calculate safety levels. The system warns the driver with different sounds according to each level. LDWS warns the driver when he change the driving lane. It detects the lane line using a camera and estimates the vehicle position using Kalman filter. LDWS will warn the driver if lane crossing is detected.
