Abstract:

An interactive mobile system has been developed for improving walking ability of CP (Cerebral Palsy) children by using moving objects, light, and auditory stimulations to increase engagement and improve the children’s motivation to participate in gait training sessions. The RGB image of a hat which is worn by the trained child is capture by a webcam and is processed to detect the location and distance of the child from the stimulating object. This object detection algorithm is implemented by using Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 and Library OpenCV. The current location of the child is then used to control the movement of the doll and auditory stimulations to encourage him/her to walk closer to the destination. The system performance in terms of functional operations has been tested with satisfactory results. The future work is to apply the system with CP children for clinical assessments.
