BENJAMAS PANOMRUTTANARUG

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

Dr. Benjamas Panomruttanarug received her Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with second-class honors from Mahidol University in 1999. In 2000, she was awarded a Royal Thai Government scholarship to pursue her master’s and PhD at Columbia University, completing both degrees in 2002 and 2006, respectively. She currently serves as a lecturer in the Department of Control Systems and Instrumentation Engineering and as head of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT).

Dr. Panomruttanarug has gained extensive international research experience as a visiting scholar at leading institutions abroad, including the University of Electro-Communications (Japan), ENAC and Université de Technologie de Compiègne (UTC) in France, TU Graz (Austria), and Heidelberg University (Germany). Building on a strong foundation in tracking control and Iterative Learning Control (ILC), her current research focuses on connected and autonomous vehicles, spanning LiDAR-based 3D mapping and localization, multi-camera perception, motion planning and tracking control, vision-based driving, and voice-AI agents for natural human–vehicle interaction. She also leads the development of robotic EV chargers aimed at commercial deployment and coordinates KMUTT’s participation in national and international autonomous racing competitions.

Combining a strong academic foundation with a broad international network, Dr. Panomruttanarug has established the CAVs group as a leading platform for autonomous vehicle research in Thailand. The group operates a diverse research fleet — from small-scale racing car robots and a go-kart to multiple golf cart testbeds and a full-size BYD electric vehicle — bridging classical control theory with modern AI-driven perception. Her ongoing work reflects a sustained commitment to both fundamental research and the practical deployment of intelligent transportation and robotic systems.
